Joe Leigh Simpson, M.D. received his undergraduate and medical education at Duke University (M.D., 1968), and postgraduate training at Cornell University Medical College (New York City). Previous positions have been Professor at Northwestern University, Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at University of Tennessee, Memphis, Chairman at the Baylor College of Medicine, and founding Academic Dean at Florida International University (Miami). He is certified in medical genetics as well as in obstetrics and gynecology. He has written almost 800 original articles, chapters and other peer publications, and more than 30 books and edited works. Dr. Simpson has played leadership roles in and many professional organizations. He has been President of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, International Society of Prenatal Diagnosis, Society for Gynecologic Investigation, American College of Medical Genetics, and Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis International Society. He is President (2012 – 2016) of the International Federation of Fertility Societies, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences, Institute of Medicine (IOM).
