Dr. Michael Katz, Senior Advisor, Transdisciplinary Research, for the March of Dimes Foundation. For nearly 20 years, Dr. Katz served as Senior Vice President for Research and Global Programs. He is Reuben S. Carpentier Professor, emeritus of Pediatrics, and Professor, emeritus of Public Health at Columbia University. He is also Consultant, emeritus to the New York- Presbyterian Hospital.
Dr. Katz is an internationally recognized expert in parasitic diseases, the relationship between malnutrition and infection, and viral pathogenesis. He is the author of numerous publications and has received many awards and honors, including the Senior U.S. Scientist Award of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany, a Distinguished Service Award of the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Columbia University, and the degree of Doctor of Medical Science, (honoris causa) from the Medical University of Lodz, Poland. He has served on advisory committees and as a consultant to the World Health Organization, UNICEF, USAID, and the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences for his expertise in virology and in tropical diseases. Dr. Katz is a Fellow of the American Society for the Advancement of Science, a Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences.
